As an international student you will need to take your TOEFL exam, among others, in order to be able to apply to a college or University in the United States. Why take this exam? Because it measures your proficiency in English which is important to know in order to establish that you will be able to understand the English language correctly in order to study. If, for any reason, your TOEFL is not good enough there are “Bridge Programs” that will allow you to take English at the university before you start your career.

There are two types of TOEFL exams:

1. TOEFL iBT Test (Internet Based Test)

2. TOEFL PBT TEST (Paper Based Test)

You can take the iBT Test online. This exam measures your reading, listening, speaking and writing skills while the paper based test measures your reading, listening, grammar and writing skills. In order to obtain more information regarding the iBT test please visit https://www.ets.org/toefl/ibt/about/content/ and in order to obtain more information regarding the PBT test please visit https://www.ets.org/toefl/pbt/about/content/.

Whenever you’re applying to a college or university you will need to know the Id of the institution you’re applying to. If you don’t, you can still ask for your scores to be sent to those institutions but you will have to pay a fee for that: https://www.ets.org/s/toefl/pdf/iBT_ASR_form.pdf .

In order to register for the exam, you will need to know available dates and available centers. You might want to visit the following link https://www.ets.org/toefl/ibt/register

Remember to set up your exam with time. It is recommended to do it with at least 3 months in advance.
